Oil Goes Into More Than Just Gasoline

Title says it all but here is the description text:

When the price of oil goes up, the first thing that we think about is having to pay more for gas. While a large percentage of oil goes towards making gas, it isn’t the only thing that oil is used for. Right now you’re probably using many products that have derived from oil, meaning you’re going to pay more for them as oil prices continue to rise.

54 comments… if your a nerd slash geek, your going to love this. Try explaining to someone that plastic is made, in part, from oil. A few comments point out explaining this to ‘the normals’ is quite hard. Go in and join the discussion. Let them know that ‘the normals’ get it!!! LOL

Why posting the HD-DVD key could land websites in big trouble

245 comments vs 1250 votes for the submitted link means that there was a heated debate going on inside this post. I learned a few things reading the comments about what happened, and what could happen to Digg and maybe even all of Web 2.0

Digg Link Pick Quote:
EFF attorney Fred Von Lohmann explains the legal arguments AACS would make regarding the posting of the key. IT shows just how nasty the DMCA can be. While their argument may not be completely ironclad, they probably would have a case against Digg and any other site that published the code. Everyone involved in this kerfuffle should read this!

Upcoming Air Jordan Spizikes | Nice Kicks – Air Force Ones, Air Jordans history & release dates.

Upcoming Air Jordan Spizikes | Nice Kicks – Air Force Ones, Air Jordans history & release dates.

As I was browsing the internet looking for articles that people are interacting on, I came across this. Over 100 comments… about sneakers! Either this is a really seriously popular site or Air Jordan’s are making allot of buzz. I haven’t got to too many fashion and clothing sites yet to see what’s up, so i don’t have a comparision. Although so far in the sneaker world, this site seems to get the most interaction that I have seen yet.

Here are some of the comments on the sneaker and how its being released:

Mannnnnnnnnnnn… They should have left these to be limited and to only a few colors…. they done did it now…. tooo many colorways…

Comment by POPgotSHOES – April 24, 2007 08:15 am

^ I agree to an extent. Ir really looks like there were only 2 colorways that were going to be released initially, but when JB saw how many people went crazy for the first spizikes they added several to be pumped out.

Comment by NiceKicks – April 24, 2007 08:32 am

I hope the true blue colorway gets released in the Philippines. The black colorway just got released this week. I agree that Spizikes should have been limited. What I hope JB will flood us with is the low patent leather 11s

Google Said to Be Among Possible Bidders for Dow Jones

I think Fox aka News Copr would be a better fit than Google, then again Google seems to be able to make anything fit what its wants to do (I’m still undecided on YouTube). Suprisingly there is only 44 comments on this article. I would figure anything with Google and Fox news would bring out the bears and lions either for or against this move. At any rate, the comments and the stabs against and for Google and News Corp (and Fox News) are interesting.

Dow Jones & Co. shareholders say Rupert Murdoch’s $5 billion takeover bid may have opened the door for other bidders, including General Electric, Washington Post Co., Gannett and even Google. Says Lawrence Haverty Jr. of Gamco Investors: “There are sharks swimming around.”

The Drama Of 09-f9-11-02-9d… blah blah blah!

Well GOT DARN IT!!! This must be the story of the year for Digg! Maybe even the biggest story its entire life being online.

Digg This: 09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0

The story has so many diggs… I can’t even load the page to see what the people commenting on the link have to say. As I wrote previously on my social interaction reporting blog (self promotion plug), there were many article links and many more comments spreading the word on this code and what it does to HD DVD.

On a side note… I wonder if this event will make HD DVD more popular and because of it, ironically, push it past Blu-Ray permanently. (In case your wondering, HD-DVD and Blu Ray are 2 different media types that store way more data on what looks like a DVD or CD rom disk. Its enough to store high definition data and sound.)

This story got so big that Digg was shut down, which ironically is what happens to some sites that are featured on Digg, AND got so wide spread that even celebrity blogs posted the story.

I still don’t officially know the whole story. Does he master key unlock the HD-DVD to play everywhere and be copied? Apparently so. What happened to the person who posted the article? Apparently banned. (Although I can’t see anything that says he is banned… at least his account wasn’t deleted… he has some good diggs on there. Might feature him as a Featured User)

… there is a MySpace page for this?????

CNN Money did an interview with the CEO of Digg. Basically the question was why backtrack from originally deleting the links to now letting them be shown? Its a short article, but its interesting. (What is also interesting is the previous article Law professor: Forwarding emails can be illegal of which has nothing to do with this DVD thing… but it still interesting)

The people commenting on ICannaCheeseBurger got an eyefull of this too(86 comments so far). Some saying that they don’t understand what the heck is all the fuss while otherrs basically “came here to escape that!”.

Its practically a movement… and ecard? Ha ha ha… There is a Facebook group, and a Deviant Art signature. There is a Digg submitted article about  how the person who submitted this code got banned: How I got banned from Digg.

And it just keeps going. I suspect -t-shirts will be made of the code soon. If you go to Reddit right now, you will see the Reddit mascot burying parts of the number… freakin’ hilarious! Top story on Reddit right now?

Slashdot explains how America ended up with the DMCA.

With 228 points and 46 comments so far.

Digg seems quite right now. Almost 3 days later… then again, Digg doesn’t have a user message board so its a little hard to tell just how upset people are. Either way, i am sure this will come up again somehow in the next few months.
